Max Capacity was more like it. First time I have ever seen Famoso Raceway that packed to the brim, and that’s me arriving early Sunday morning for what was a 3-4 day event. The ever-popular March Meet held at the famous Auto Club Famoso Raceway has been going down for almost 60 plus years. Don’t know the exact number, but from what I do know it was this event that put Bakersfield CA. on the Motorsports Map of the World. The history of this special event goes so far back that the stories of “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, John Force, Tony Pedregon and even NASCAR’s very own Kevin Harvick are truly part of what makes this event that great. What does it take to bring crowds, to bring racers, and to bring newcomers in all areas. Well Import Face-Off has proven it again in the High Stakes City known as Las Vegas, holding it down in a track known for its bad winds around this time of the year. No one expected it to be close to perfect, but upon entrance on Sunday morning the Car Show attendees were already rolling in strong, from the likes of Team Hybrid, and local crew Street Symphony if you where a Show Car type you could see it all. Also, with many new and past show cars filling up the lot, in the pits some never been seen cars like a mean looking VW Drag Bug, and hailing from as far north as Washington was the ETS GTR from English Racing. More like a million, but that would be over exaggerating. The estimated number in attendance was about 25,000 plus people and maybe more. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see and meet everyone as I planned. I mean I flew all the way from L.A. to Newark, then to Virgina shuttled out to get my rental car, and drove another hour and a half to find this so called Drag Racing Gem also known as WCF Imports vs Domestics. In its 19th year, this one (my first one ) did not disappoint at all. Friends and fans have been telling us to come and with the World Famous SEMA on the same week at this event we have always gone to Vegas it being closer and from history SEMA Week in Vegas has been a party of a lifetime. But I opted out and decided to take a chance and head over to Maryland International Raceway to see these Drag Racing Monsters from all over the World Battle for supremacy. […]
