The feeling of knowing you’ll be late to an event kinda sucks, but knowing it is one of your favorite events of the year could’ve been a catastrophe. Luckily, as fate interferes with reality, I somehow managed to get to Day 2 of Round 1 in the Global Time Attack Pro Championship x Road Atlanta. What I had planned for this event and Formula D was totally different from what I ended up with, knowing that more teams and cars were going to make it at this event I was overly excited to see it all. In the enthusiast world of motoring there are several pinnacle series of racing we all follow or look up to as the cream of the crop. For me, it’s always has been Formula One and the GT Cars all over the World. Particularly the 24 Heures du Mans overseas, the cars look so interesting that you start to pick at it from the roof to the wheels, to even the bolts holding down the seat. From the manufacturer to the personnel everything involved has a reason. Totally functional in all ways more than one, but also very stylish as form does follow from it. Max Capacity was more like it. First time I have ever seen Famoso Raceway that packed to the brim, and that’s me arriving early Sunday morning for what was a 3-4 day event. The ever-popular March Meet held at the famous Auto Club Famoso Raceway has been going down for almost 60 plus years. Don’t know the exact number, but from what I do know it was this event that put Bakersfield CA. on the Motorsports Map of the World. The history of this special event goes so far back that the stories of “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, John Force, Tony Pedregon and even NASCAR’s very own Kevin Harvick are truly part of what makes this event that great. Buttonwillow in the wet, it’s happened before and most events shut it down till mother nature stops crying. But when you’re chasing time and you got a full fledged field of anxious racers trying to one up each other, nothing is going to get in the way of a Time Attack event that brings it like no other. Some people have never heard of this growing giant that has become a worldwide phenomenon. I honestly don’t know when it all started, but from what I can remember back in my tracking days it was really fun. You register , drive to the track and race not against others bumper to bumper, but against the Clock. You have to set a time and beat it every chance you get. The only thing is, no audience and really no true payout or anything like that. Now we got events throughout the US and if it wasn’t noticeable before, everywhere in the world, it’s a Big thing, especially in Japan on the Standard Tsukuba Circuit hundreds, if not thousands of cars fill up the tracks in Japan on Time Attack days.
