Well, it surely does if your not use to it. March Meet 2016 was whole other story. The Nitro, the hot-rods, the people, and the rain. Yup, it rained, just a little enough for some to question their track quest that weekend. Thanks to Mike from thefoat.com and M&H Tires for another opportunity experiencing one of my favorite events of the year. This one did not disappoint.
If you love drag racing, fast cars, and old ones for that matter, the March Meet is for you. The atmosphere is filled with great people who all want to race and have fun doing it. To them the history of the March Meet has to stay alive, and by doing so they continue to come down every year for this almost one week event and battle their cars out on the strip. Famoso Raceway has and will always be the place for it, in order to keep the legendary event alive, no one would want it any other way. Maybe it’s the agriculture fields surrounding the track that keeps it real, or maybe it’s the fact that the same formula for cars, people, vendors, and everything else makes it like no other.
The rain came and went, but even then some of the baddest of the craziest drivers still lit up the hides and sped down the track. Amazed in awe, safety is always a high priority at the track and almost every 5 second pass or what not was checked. About 5-10 people check the track continuously and make it right for the next driver up.
What I did notice most about the event was the names on the cars and the drivers nick names. Hilarious or cool, the names Surfing Willie, Maniac Mike, Crippled Peter, and Crazy Johnny to name a few are so interesting it makes me wonder if they live up to the names. Lol. The cars though got cooler names like Home Wrecker IV, Teachers Pet, and even TRUMP, all in all I’m sure the characters that thought of the names are just as cool. So if you’re still not convinced, go ahead and check out the event through my camera exclusively on thefoat.com and see for yourself why this is one of my favorite events of the year. -Rommel Estrada
