Wind chills made it difficult to shoot but the rain from yesterday and fast-moving cloudy skies provided a nice backdrop for a track that’s typically just clear skies and dry yellow dirt. I’m all in for photo ops and it being my first Gridlife event, I’m excited to see their time-attack “TrackBattle Brackets” format. Its Superbowl Sunday and I expected low attendance but its a good turnout. A nice mix of talent of drivers, track/race cars and media. Met up with friends and new people; putting a name to a face, car, camera or a social media @account is always fun. The first half of the event ran like a typical track day, run groups out on track for HPDE and Qualifying. But for the other half, that’s when everything gets turned up a few notches. Two cars are released onto an open track in a Tōuge style lead-follow battle. Green flag… gap ’em. Blue flag, switch positions. Green flag, close the gap and take the win at the checkered. Live commentary and post-race interviews over the PA loudspeakers, as well as the crowd cheering, heightened the excitement. This was a great experience, and I’m a fan of this time-attack format. I hope we get more of this here in the West Coast. But for now, check out these photos – Jeremy Adajar
